9 Fun Facts About Me
To give you a better sense of who I am, here are nine fun facts about me:
A theme of my life right now is downsizing. My husband and I moved into a smaller house in a more walkable part of town in 2020. We got rid of a lot of items we’d accumulated, and replaced them with upcycled things we loved. In many ways, I’ve been downsizing with my career, too, as I mentioned previously. I’m focusing more on a chosen few projects, and less on accumulation. All of this has given me boundless joy, and time to appreciate all that I have.
The craziest thing I’ve done lately is run 13.1 miles along a mostly deserted highway at midnight at a place known for alien sightings. It’s called the ET Full Moon Midnight Half Marathon in Rachel, Nevada, home to Area 51, and I’ve actually run it multiple times. I’ve seen meteors, weird animals, snakes and even a dead cow. It was very scary. But in recent years, I’ve learned to embrace the dark—and the surprises and unknowns outside of my comfort zone—both literally and symbolically.
A fear I’ve worked to overcome is stairs. Steps have always been my nemesis. I’m clumsy, and I’m terrified I’ll trip and fall. But I decided to face that fear and participate in Scale the Strat, an event that climbs up 108 floors to the top of the Stratosphere, and benefits the American Lung Association. My motivation? Training for it gave me an opportunity to get to know a woman I’d met at an event, who was also participating. For me, it’s all about building the connections—and overcoming fear.
The most cherished gift I’ve received is a Peloton. It came from a client for a job well done.
If I could be anywhere right now, I’d be at home. I know it sounds corny. An earlier version of me would have said Hawaii. But now, I love my home so much. I really just want to be near the people I love.
My favorite vintage Vegas spot is El Cortez. I love that the valets know me there, and they’ve all been there for, like, 30 years. Their matzo ball soup is world class. And it’s a locally owned family business. I make it a priority to go local.
My favorite color is orange and purple. I used to just say purple, but, really, why should I have to pick just one?
I find inspiration in other people. I love being around people and learning from them. I divide my time between working at home and working in a coworking space, because it helps me feel connected.
My clients make me happiest when they introduce me to their dogs. I don’t have any pets, myself, but I love meeting other people’s four-legged friends! I also love it when I get to meet their children. It makes me feel like family.
